Thanks. I'm not comfortable with PMX as a language and I'm
sufficiently familiar with raw musixtex code that I manage
well enough. For years I've been generating parts from
scores by using code like

\def\vnotes#1\elemskip#2\en{\noteskip#1\@l@mskip\@vnotes#3\enotes}%
\makeatother%
just after \startpiece, but I was wondering whether the
"official" way was easier.

Hmm. I don't think I've ever used an "explicit" hbox; do I
use hboxes indirectly? I don't know.
Anyways, if someone could show me how to set it up, I'll
evaluate the "difficulties" for myself.
