If there is an extra blank line or a line that terminates with /, it doesn't. I'll leave it to PMX and Fortran wizards to figure out why. But I'll repeat that it is unacceptable that a run-time error occur in any of these cases. A software application should be robust enough to produce a meaningful error message if necessary, or simply deal with the syntax error, if that's what it is.
