A new package guitartabs has recently appeared at CTAN. The author seems to think tablature was invented recently for the (modern) guitar.

The tex-music archive has references to http://icking-music-archive.org/software/musixtex/add-ons/tabdefs.tex but this isn't usable as is. Has anyone been able to use this (or a comparable set of macros) with modern musixtex?
