Yes, the initial (before musixflx) value of \elemskip is affected by musicsize. As musixdoc says "the value on the first pass doesn't matter as much as you might think." >|I would have expected the musicsize change to be >|automatic when I am with the second instrument. And I have no idea how that could be implemented, even in the autosp preprocessor, because there are no instrument-specific "elemskip" parameters, only the global \elemskip. \setsize affects some instrument-specific parameters (such as \internote) but not \elemskip.
