Luigi, your solution does work perfectly in this case, and I'm amazed that
you found it! But Andre's example still raises some deep issues that I
haven't yet resolved. His use of ]j is nominally correct and should produce
the desired result. In bar 1, leaving out the j causes PMX to insert \tbu2
in the lower staff. But later on more notes are inserted into beam 2 in the
upper staff and it is terminated again there with \tbl2. I've confirmed that
the \tbu2 does nothing; you can remove it and nothing changes in the result.
So it looks like I still have some work to do in the guts of PMX. I'll
report back if and when I resolve this.
