Hi Michal,
I looked a bit closer into the HTML file now and noticed that it
was generated with tex4ht indeed. The file also mentions "cmr12".
If the usage message is a LaTeX verbatim environment you could try
\usepackage{upquote}
in order to get rid of typographic quotes.
The upquote package re-defines \verb and the verbatim environment and
thus only works with standard LaTeX. With LuaTeX you can achieve the
same with a proper fontspec setup.
