Follow-up Comment #1, bug #619 (project tex4ht):
Is there a reason for use of the item environment instead of the \item
command? It seems that this causes issues, as the following works fine:
\begin{enumerate}[label=(\arabic*)]
\item An item.
\item A second item.
\item A third item.
\end{enumerate}
