I have been doing some driving lately along rural backroads between Dallas and Houston, and have noticed quite a bit of negative changes towards the environment, based on similar travels in the region back in the 80's.
Take a look at the coordinates below on a map program with satellite imagery, such as Google Maps: 31.474800, -96.264322 Zoom in and out and look at the south section of Freestone County. It looks worse from the ground level. I wonder if Mother Nature will be able to fix this mess someday. I bet this entire area will be a SuperFund site in 10 or 20 years. I went to two of my old favorite swimming holes in the area that I had not been to in 20 years, and they were not swimmable. On a related note, all of the former dried-up one horse towns in the area all have a newly built Best Western hotel, or Holiday Inn Express, charging rates equivalent to the big cities.
