Tank Haulers Unite! We need your help to haul gear and support Dr. Jean Krejca, James C Brown, David Moore, and Matt Turner as they Explore, Radio Locate, and Survey Upstream Sump 3 and beyond. March 1st and March 22nd, Saturday only. In order for the trip to be a success, we need at least 40 cavers each weekend to help haul gear. Currently we only have 19 people for the first weekend.
Please contact me off list if you think you can come and what dates. Right now we need help most this first weekend to get the party started so come on out and spread the word! Honey Creek is the longest cave in Texas at over 20 miles long. It is a water cave and you will need a wetsuit and harness with d-ring to be lowered on cable down a man-made shaft. The trip to the sump typically takes 6 hours each way and includes walking, salamandering, crawling, and "The Mud and The Crud". The trip is challenging but very fun. This is not a beginner cave so please only refer/bring people with the skills necessary to successfully and safely complete the trip. Please spread the word. *TRIP LOGISTICS* On March 1st, cavers will haul gear to Sump 1 for Jean, James, Matt, and David to begin their 4-day underground camp/exploration. The divers will split up their gear into individual loads on the surface, cavers will choose a load,and each person/team is responsible for taking their load to the sump.Once cavers get to the sump, they can abandon their gear and head back to the surface for an evening of reverie. On March 22nd, cavers will go to Sump 1 and haul gear out of the cave. We will have some large packs to carry loads. We recommend using the group packs because they need to stay in the cave both weekend in order haul group gear out on January 26th but bring large packs if you have them to spare for both weekends. It would be good to bring a small pack for personal gear to haul out of the cave. Camping is available both weekends and we will enter the cave around 9am. The cave will be open to haulers on Sunday, March 2nd for thru trips to the Natural Entrance.
