UPDATE some more:
Tomorrow will be 2 weeks. I went to my personal doc last Tuesday. I had
improved maybe 80% (I thought) from the day I fell. The ER had sent her all
the reports so we discussed them. I went home; Crystal drove both ways. I
had not had a BM in a week so laxatives were tried without success. In
addition to spells and potions nothing seemed to work until the enema was
tried. It worked. And worked again. That changed my attitude several
hundred percent. My most recent response to questions about how I'm doing
is that I feel about 96% better--or 67% if the drugs are not considered. I
have on a couple of occasion forgotten a dose and felt bad for it--both
physically and mentally bad. I think most of the ribs and muscles have
moved back into positions relative to their normal positions of function
but are waiting to heal themselves more better. I changed drugs on Sunday
and feel they are a lot more friendly although they're a little too strong
to allow me to drive a car (unless it's somebody else's car). There have
been many and much appreciated visitors and bearers of food. I have not
been able to eat it all. A bowl of Thai Yellow Curry was eaten with mucho
gusto. Yesterday (or Sunday evening) I began to feel enthusiastic about
cooking again. I think the enema had something to do with it.
In general, I think most of the minor damage has healed or is in the
final stages of healing. The more severely fractured, smashed, and broken
parts are slowly mending themselves but, as all warnings have mentioned,
ribs take a long time to heal. I can now take full breaths and can cough
fairly normally, up to an 80% or so range. I haven't really had to have a
hard cough yet--say Jalapeno, brother. Just walking produces some minor
interior pain on the left rear quarter to remind me to take it easy.
Otherwise, if I sit still, I'm unaware that anything ever happened. I just
noticed that the pain pills I'm taking are the same ones prescribed for my
15-pound weenie dog. I'm gonna recommend she doesn't drive either.
