Well, if you assume the reporting is accurate (a stretch these days on any news), then it's not Piᅵon. That drop is barely 20 feet. Plus, the upper end of Hay Canyon is around 11 miles NW of Piᅵon.

Perhaps, Bob Rodgers (cc'd) can provide more info on location.
