It is my pleasure to introduce the newest in Texas Cavers from Ohio
currently living in Ohio: George Augustus ‘Gus’ Richmann was born at 1:55
PM this last Sunday. At 7 lbs. 3 oz. and 19 inches long he should be
pretty good at pushing leads; however, Jen is emphatic that it will be many
years before he sees another ‘birth canal’. Both Gus and Mom are doing
very well for being three days old at their respective roles.

Just got this from Steve Black PhD on the Texas Archeological Society list. Panther Cave is a large shelter in Seminole Canyon State Park, a
few miles east of the Pecos River in west Texas. I know that many cavers are interested in pictographs, and the Lower Pecos is a world-class
area for them.

I will be coordinating the map salon at the spring convention again this
year. The convention is just over 4 weeks away so get your maps ready and
bring them along. Maps will be displayed in a building on site. Find out
where it is on Saturday morning and drop off your maps or hand them to me
personally, or to the TSA Vice-Chair, Mallory Mayeux. Awards will be

There is a Honeycreek trip scheduled for March 23-24. Andy G will be
continuing his Salamander studies at the spring area, and David O plans to do a
dive at the Downstream sump which we hope will be more accessible due to the
lower water flows. I'll also be looking for a few teams to survey several of
the smaller caves scattered across the property. If you can help on the survey
project please let me know.
Camping will be available Friday and Saturday nights. Honeycreek cave can be
available for through trips or other caving trips as long as they don't
interfere with Andy or David's projects.
Please RSVP if you plan to attend so I have some idea of what to expect.

NaturFest officially starts at 8 p.m. on Friday night.
Everything is in order this year. While that may be an
exaggeration, it is a
true statement under the circumstances.
There will be a few people camping Friday night. Not sure if any of them are
cavers though, just the band and their roadies, and my family.
Around noon on Saturday, someone will be needed to make a run to
the HEB store to buy ice, food, etc, It is about 8 miles from camp,
but there are
closer stores that sell supplies.
It would be helpful for everyone to bring an extra bag of ice. I
will have a large
ice-chest set up for all the attendees to share.
My personal business affairs have been a huge distraction this week.
I can't figure
out why my customers can't wait till after NaturFest for their work to
get done. What
is wrong with those crazy people ?? Their clients have court
dates on Tuesday, and
their clients are expected to lose their commercial driver's license
for 6 months, and they
expect me to just drop my campground preparation plans this week for
their petty problems.
I am going to be difficult to reach. If you get to Camp Happy
Hollow and the gate is
locked and there is no sign of NaturFest, please do not worry.
Just enjoy the scenery
till I get there.
I would like to emphasize that we have a storage unit nearby with
extra camping supplies,
so please don't worry too much about bringing stuff. I am sleeping
out under the stars.
Try hard to bring a bicycle, or some hiking boots.
There should be some kind of charcoal grill, but that decision has not
been made yet.
( There is a K-Bob's restaurant and a Mexican restaurant with party room
just 5 miles from camp ) The event dinner is flexible enough that
the decision will
be made Saturday morning.
