New Website, Video Explain Edwards Aquifer Habitat Conservation Plan
SAN ANTONIO – Late last year, acoalition of groups that included Texas Parks
and Wildlife Department did whatmany thought might be impossible—they agreed on
a plan to protect endangeredspecies that depend on the Edwards Aquifer,
figuring out how to help the rarespecies while also providing water for people.
Now there’s a new website andvideo developed by the Edwards Aquifer Authority
to help explain the plan thatcame out of that historic achievement, the Edwards
Aquifer Habitat ConservationPlan, which is currently under review by the U.S.
Fish and Wildlife Service. The plan is designed to protect various rare species
whose only known habitatsare the aquifer-fed Comal and San Marcos springs
ecosystems. The website www.eahcp.org went live earlier this month tohelp
explain all this. For details, the media contact is Elizabeth Smith
