I hope everyone has got their plans made for the SWR Winter Tech! It
promises to be a great event. The program is set with many very good
presentations. We'll have coffee, burritos, etc. (Donatiions accepted) at
around 8 am at Gerald Thomas auditorium. (Please be careful to keep food and
drinks in the lobby -- not in the auditorium itself.) Inner Realm Books will
be here with a selection of books, etc for your consideration. The SWR
business meeting should start at 9 am sharp and the presentations will begin at
10:30. Dinner will be at the Golden Corral at 6 pm and the party, with
refreshments provided by the Mesilla Valley Grotto, at the Peerman home -- 3125
Missouri Ave.
On Sunday we're offering trips to the Paleozoic Trackways National
Monument or Aden Crater, if there is enough interest. (The Paleozoic Trackways
is the site of a collection of dinosaur tracks. Aden Crater is a ~100 foot
deep fumarole and requires vertical gear. It is most famous for being the
excavation site for extinct giant ground sloths.)
For those of you who are arriving relatively early on Friday, a number
of us will be gathering between 6:00 -- 6:30 PM at Napolito's Restaurant (2605
E. Missouri Ave.) for dinner. Napolito's is famous for it's green chile salsa
and enchilada plates. They also have traditional American fare for those who
don't like Mexican food.
To get to Napolito's from I-25 coming south -- Take the Lohman exit
(Exit 3), cross over the Interstate, heading east, get immediately into the
right lane and turn right (south) onto Telshor Blvd. After turning onto
Telshor, turn right again at the third traffic light (Missouri) -- you'll be
heading west. Look for Napolito's on your right after a couple of blocks. If
there's no room to park in the parking lot, you can park in the vacant lot
across the street.
From I-10 (either from the south or from the west), take the I-25 exit
and head North. Take the first exit onto University Avenue and turn right
heading east. Turn left onto Telshor Blvd at the second light. You'll be
heading north. At the first light (Missouri) turn left, heading west and look
for Napolito's on the right, as above.
If you're coming from the east on Hwy 70, get onto I-25 south and
follow the directions for I-25.
Napolito's is 5 minutes from Peerman's & Walker's house.
