--- Begin Message --- There's a new product for waterproofing any small electronic device called Liquipel <http://www.liquipel.com/>. It is a vapor treatment that is supposed to last the life of the device. (Does that mean that it works until it doesn't? ;-)) The demo videos are pretty convincing. It's pricey, though: $59 for the least expensive option. Might be worth it for a Disto or other expensive device you wanted to take caving.

Subject: Bad news, Werker's car accident

Dear everyone,

Just received some extremely bad news this morning, Jim and Val Werker were in
a horrible rollover accident north of T or C last night. Jim has lost his left
arm, has a broken leg, and maybe or maybe not internal injuries.
Val is banged up and a couple of minor broken bones.

Please let friends and colleagues know who know them and whose emails I don't
have to hand right at the moment. I'm planning on trying to go down and visit
over the weekend but dont' know if they will be home or still in El Paso
hospital.

They were helicoptered to El Paso for treatment. We will all hope for the best.

Penny

Steve Peerman

"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you
didn't do than by the ones you did. So throw off the bowlines, Sail away from
the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover."
attributed to Mark Twain, but no record exists of his having written this.

Howdy Caver,

You are cordially invited to attend the Underground Texas Grotto meeting on
Wednesday January 18, 2012 from 7:45 P.M. - 9:00 P.M.

University of Texas Campus in 2.48 Painter Hall (156 West 24th Street,
Austin TX 78712) http://www.utexas.edu/maps/main/buildings/pai.html

Pete Strickland and Logan McNatt will present the Program of the evening as

Revisiting the Discovery and Exploration of El Sotano del Barro

When first explored, this pit was the deepest known. Come check out this
great program on the 40th anniversary of its discovery. As always, it is
guaranteed fun and fellowship with Austin Texas Cavers.

For information on Underground Texas Grotto activities, please see
www.utgrotto.org

Officer contact, trip reports, event calendar, and new caver training links
to beginner trips or vertical rope training are available.

Before the meeting, take advantage of Sao Paulo www.saopaulos.net for
happy hour specials. This area is the best place to park and meet folks
walking over to the meeting. Then after the official meeting, we continue
with the decades long tradition to reconvene for burgers, beer, and tall
tales of caving at Posse East. www.posse-east.com

The UT Grotto needs you, YES YOU !!!, the caver with photos and a story to
share about your adventures, scientific research, or something else really
cool. Contact me.

Sincerely,

Gary Franklin

Good Morning all,

The 2011TSA Financials are available on the TSA web site for your review. To
access the information you have to be a member of the TSA and registered on the
TSA site. Many thanks to Butch Fralia for uploading the information and to Ron
Ralph for suggesting the posting of the information.

The very short summary:

Our assets at the beginning of 2011totaled $8,775.06. This amount includes the
operating and savings account. We ended the year with assets of $8,424,32.

Our income for the year totaled $6,131.79 and our expenses were $6,540.76 - a
difference of -$408.97.

I've recommended that we immediately cut the pay of all Officers in half, and
the Presidential Limo will need to be parked until we recoup the losses from
2011.

I've set up a trip to Honeycreek Cave for Feb 11-12. No major dive trips or
other projects planned yet, but all comers are welcome. Feel free to continue
any survey leads you remember from years past, or just do a leisurely swim
through.

Camping will be available at the shaft entrance Friday and Saturday evenings.

Please let me know if you're planning to attend.

Someone who attends needs to write up a dagburn trip report.

One from a "newbie" to Honeycreek would be especially enjoyable.

Spanning the globe in search of "stuff" for the next TC.

Thanks!

Mark

[I'm rejoining the list after years of being absent]

I'm one.

I'm not savvy on all the details, but there was ruckus among the leadership
a while back. Some records were lost.

If you're unsure of your credentials, you should verify them now before you
really need them.

I'm not sure if the schism has healed or not.
