Greetings,

To those of us who were wise enough to go to the NSS convention in
Colorado...

I had an 18gal blue tote containing 12 tie-dye shirts and a set of
tie-dye sheets disappear from Groad Hollow on Saturday morning.

Did this end up in your truck?

Thanks,
   Justin

Somewhat offtopic but of interest to geo-types:

The Railroad Commission here in Austin is giving away our nearly complete set
of NRCS County Soil Survey books for Texas. The County Soil books include soil
descriptions, aerial photographic coverage and other information useful for
engineers, consultants, university libraries, groundwater conservation
districts
etc.

Many of these books are out-of-print.  Altough most are available online (see
link) you may be one of those types that prefer a paper copy.

  http://soils.usda.gov/survey/printed_surveys/state.asp?state=Texas&abbr=TX

Timeline is short, if you like paper reports let me know.

I am trying to return a vehicle pass to Acuna this weekend.

Is there a Banjercito Office to return a Vehicle Permit right at the bridge
or is the office farther in ?

Any information would be helpful as I have never crossed at this location
and only want to return the permit.

Gary

Why go to Acuña then? Laredo is the same distance from Austin, and much easier
to deal with. You just drive right through the booth, and don't even have to
get out of the car. Couldn't be simpler.

Laredo is ideal, but Acuna is along the way to a caving trip this weekend.
I really want to turn in this Permit since my windshield is cracked will
needs replacing.

Bill,
Is it dangerous to cross into Acuna, or would you advise avoiding it?

I am use to seeing a Banjercito booth right at the bridge complex and just
wanted to turn in the permit and keep the international bridge in site. I
didn't want to drive into the interior out of the security area at all.

Just trying to get a firm idea of what I am facing, and dont want any
surprises or hassel.

It's not far from the bridge. It's to the right at the square. Park to the left.

Don's iPhone.

Dear Friends,

Below is an announcement of a new book on karst management that may interest
you (yes, I am one of the authors and wrote chapter 14). But first, NCKRI
transferred its e-mail from an outside server its own new server. If you
sent anyone at NCKRI a message for the past couple of days (28 or 29 July)
and have not received a reply, please resend it. It may have been lost
during the change. I apologize for any inconvenience.

Please send this announcement to anyone you think may be interested.

George

Focusing specifically on the management of karst environments, this volume
draws together the world's leading karst experts to provide a vital source
for the study and management of this unique physical setting. Although karst
landscapes cover 12% of the Earth's terrain and provide 25% of the world's
drinking water, the resource management of karst environments has only
previously received indirect attention. Through a comprehensive approach,
Karst Management focuses on engineering issues associated with surface karst
such as quarries, dams, and agriculture, subsurface topics such as the
management of groundwater, show caves, cave biota, and geo-archaeology
projects. Chapters that focus on karst as an integrated system look at IUCN
World Heritage sites, national parks, policy and regulation, measuring
systematic disturbance, information management, and public environmental
education. The text incorporates the most up-to-date research from leading
karst scientists.

This volume provides important perspectives for university students,
educators, geoengineers, resource managers, and planners who are interested
in or work with this unique physical landscape.
