I found out about Dave Gers' passing while out of town this weekend. Dave was
one of the experienced cavers on my first caving trip (the others were Mike
Pearson and Phil Sanders) to Walkup Cave in the North Texas gypsum plain. Dave
was also the first person to take me on a geo-caching trip through some local
parks here in the DFW Metroplex. You could always count on having an
interesting conversation on just about any subject with Dave and he was always
generous with his time and knowledge. I lost touch with him in the last few
years as he stopped attending local grotto meetings, and I'm sad to know that
he's gone.
