KIWI SINK Dig--6 January 2013--Upon arrival at the cave it was decided that the day's primary effort would be to continue the leveling of the floor at the current low level in order to make future work safer and easier. A secondary but not subordinate goal was to continue the extension and enlargement of the North Lead--a clean-washed gravel crawlway heading northward and downward parallel to the fault but with only a half-dozen centimeters of airspace at present. Kris Pena chose her weapons and set off to attack it. All we saw of her for the next couple of hours was her hand passing out buckets full off rocks and dirt. The floor was brought down and leveled and 8 barrels filled and about a-half-dozen nuisance rocks dug up and set aside by 1 o'clock. But the Control Switch for the winch had become inoperable so no hoisting could be done. Sometime during the day Will climbed down the the present bottom of the cave, site of the Southbound Dig and reported the pool and passage dry and ready for digging--and several frogs present. Rain being in the forecast for Wednesday, a sheetmetal cover was placed over the 2 barrels under the waterfall and weighted with rocks of the first order.

As the sun had set we were forced to work with headlamps once again proving that caving can be done at night if one has a strong enough will. We were done by 8:30 and ate some carrot cake. Bring on the rain..... --Ediger --------------------------------------------------------------------- Visit our website: http://texascavers.com To unsubscribe, e-mail: [email protected] For additional commands, e-mail: [email protected]
