Would the TCR cooks post the menu here and list which foods are spicey and
which are not? That way alternate food could be brought for Sat night by some

Thanks.

would check and avoid confusion once there.

WTF is MSG? If you think i'm gonna use that you might as well stay home (or
you'll end up in the pot).

I don't do pork or MSG.
Which means the chili will not have pork or MSG.

It will be a little spicier than the first run at it though.

The Maya had turkeys, but no chickens.. why are you using chicken? They
didn't have pigs until the gachupines showed up either.

Like the woman (a yanqui?) at a Mexican restaurant (El Mat? El Toro?) back
in the late 70s who said "I'm a vegetarian. I'd like carne guisada without

Beans? OK, but on the side, not ruining the purity of the chili.

They had javelina--close enough to pig for me. And armadillo.

Neither TCR nor the Cooks are democratic institutions. They have a
party and they serve food. You can choose or not to attend or eat or
participate. You don't get a vote. You don't get a discount if you
don't get in the hot tub, if you don't climb the rope, or if you don't
eat. One price for everybody no matter how idiosyncratic they may wish
to be. TCR is enough work without catering to a bunch of personal
foibles. Go with the flow.

Gill is mellowing (or maturing). How about a straight forward: " GO SUCK EGGS!"

My regards to all and sorry to miss the extraordinary festivities again.   We
are in the last phases of getting ready to depart to Laos and Vietnam
(accompanied by Rune, Susan, et al).   Find we cannot take the time to drive a
few daze to see old friends.   Guess I live a bit too far away, still trying to
do too many things at once,   and possibly getting too "mature" myself------.

Pity.

Enjoy!

Dear CaveTex readers,

I have some items that may or may not be of interest to the current caving
community. I have posted them on the local Craigslist, but could bring them to
TCR this weekend if there is anyone interested in seeing them. Hope to see
everyone this weekend.

Cavers,

TCR is almost here and there will be contests and prizes galore.
Contests are generally set up Saturday, October 20th mid-morning and
registration table will have specifics.

Come show off your caver skills at all the Speleolympic Contests and
win some super prizes. There will be race rope climbing, cable ladder,
rebelay ropes course, obstacle course and more. Bring your vertical
gear, helmets, and knee/elbow pads to participate in all the fun.

The Survey Contest will test your survey accuracy and give you the
chance to win a brand new set of instruments and other survey prizes.
Bring your own instruments or borrow some.

Continuing on a new tradition, we will have themed Costume Contest to
go with the parade theme! This year's parade theme is Maya Apocalypse
and rumor is there will be a good showing of costumes. Wear your
costume to the afternoon parade and then contestants can display their
costumes on stage Saturday night and let the audience vote for the
best Maya Apocalypse costume. Last year's winner was Andy Edwards from
GHG with his very convincing cross-dressing pirate outfit.

Did I mention prizes? Oh yeah! There will be some great prizes for
contest winners. No skimpy prizes here.

See you soon!!

Ellie

Attn: NSS Members,
I have recently taken on the responsibility as Editor for the NSS Members Manual and I would like to go ahead and start soliciting NSS Members for cover photos for the 2013 NSS Members Manual.

Please send no more than FIVE high quality, vertically ["portrait"] oriented, cave related photographs for possible use on the front or back cover of the 2013 NSS Members Manual. All photos must be taken by you and again must be vertically oriented. Horizontal photos will not be accepted no matter how good they are. Make sure that no "bad" caver practices are shown, like an ungloved hand holding onto a speleothem or not wearing a helmet.

The deadline for submissions is January 31, 2013.

Please note: You must be a current NSS member so include your NSS number and state of residence in your e-mail along with the subject line 2013 NSS MM Cover Photo Submission.

If you have more than five photos that you would like to submit, you can mail a cd to me at 331 Mountain View Circle, Jasper, TN 37347.

Please feel free to repost this message.

Thanks,

Kelly Smallwood
2013 Members Manual Editor

Ok, so maybe it's just me. But the superposition of younger craters on older
craters (in this case two smaller craters upon the rim of an older crater) can
result in landforms that appear to resemble more familiar shapes to human eyes.
More generally, the Law of Superposition allows scientists to determine which
surface features pre- and postdate others, leading to a better understanding of
the geological history of different regions of Mercury's surface. Date
acquired: August 29, 2012 Image Credit: NASA/Johns Hopkins University Applied
Physics Laboratory/Carnegie Institution of Washington
