In the Jan, 2012 issue of Rural Missouri, the newsletter of electric cooperatives there, there is a guest column by Kirk Hansen of Fantastic Caverns, a commercial cave operating in Springfield. Its interesting in that he has a different perspective on White Nose Syndrome and bats. Missouri hasn't yet seen WNS according to the article, but the fungus is there. "Private Show Caves Wary, But Open".

Two statements are made that appear contrary to current understanding:

"It is suspected that people can carry the fungal spores from place to place, ESPECIALLY those involved in wild cave excursions"

"Visitors to these attractions [Missouri show caves] sustain very little contact with the cave, thus reducing the possibility of cross-cave contamination. At Fantastic Caverns in Springfield, guests ride all the way through the cave without any direct contact with the cavern."
