In SA, 1604 intersection with IH35 will be closed 9pm to morning Friday
night and Saturday night and Sunday night. If you are coming south late,
avoid that intersection or expect slow detours.
Just heard the above on the radio and checked it on TxDot. Seems to be a
place to avoid after 9pm tonight.
Looking forward to seeing you at Spring Convention.

Restoration Field Camp
Carlsbad Caverns National Park
June 26 - July 1, 2011
This camp is open to anyone 18 years of age or older no matter their caving
experience. It is a great opportunity for new cavers to learn about cave
conservation, restoration and etiquette. They will receive instructions and
guidance and we will be performing meaningful cave restoration projects at the
Park all week. It is also a great camp for experienced cavers and
restorationists, too.
We will be performing various cave restoration and conservation projects in the
cave on behalf of Carlsbad Caverns and enjoying our off times together. We will
be staying in the historic research huts just a short walk from the Natural
Entrance. The evening bat flights visible from the porch are particularly
grand. The cost of the camp is being kept to a minimum and the mood will be
casual, friendly and fun.
The camp is being organized by William and Tammy Tucker on behalf of the Cave
Research Foundation.
If you are interested, contact William Tucker ([email protected]) and you
will be sent further details and an application. Camp space is limited and the
deadline for contact is May 15.
Please distribute this message widely.

happens to be my daughter!

The following is from the Museum of Hoaxes Top 100 April Fool's Day Hoaxes of

*#76: Great Cave Sell*
On one undetermined April 1 in the 1840s a story appeared in the /Boston Post/ announcing that a cave full of treasure had been discovered
beneath Boston Common. It had supposedly been uncovered by workmen as they removed a tree from the Common. As the tree fell, it revealed a stone
trap-door with a large iron ring set in it. Beneath the door was a stone stairway that led to an underground cave. In this cave lay piles of
jewels, old coins, and weapons with jeweled handles. As word of the discovery spread throughout Boston, parties of excited curiosity-seekers
began marching out across the Common to view the treasure. A witness later described the scene: "It was rainy, that 1st of April, the
Legislature was in session, and it was an animated scene that the Common presented, roofed with umbrellas, sheltering pilgrims on their way to
the new-found sell. A procession of grave legislators marched solemnly down under their green gingham, while philosophers, archaeologists,
numismatists, antiquarians of all qualities, and the public generally paid tribute to the Post's ingenuity." Of course, the Common was empty of
all jewel-bearing caverns, as the crowd of treasure seekers eventually discovered to its disappointment.

No joking - according to my 2005 calendar - The First Descent of Golondrinas
was on April 2nd 1967.
Too bad they didn't do it a day earlier.

It was, but since we've had so many leap years since then the actual day has
been muddled and sometimes people >think< it was actually 2nd April.

I always thought it was 1 April 1967. I dropped Golondrinas on 1 April 2
years later.

5 cavers from the convention are having a pleasant afternoon in the
Mexican bordertown of Ciudad Acuna.
Our host is Charlie Loving and his wife, and along with me are Jay
Jorden and David McLung.
We had a very nice dinner at the infamous Crosbys, accompanied by a
local Mariachi infamously
known here as El Buki. The waiter that waited on us rolled out
the red carpet, as he is old acquaintences
with Charlie.
Now we are walking the deserted dusty streets of town, and it is
difficult to imagine how a bustling enterprise
can be in the desolate shape it is in now. The 5 of us appear to be
the only customers in town.
David McLung is sitting in the salon of a dentist office pondering
whether to get an estimate on a broken
tooth. I am down the street in a Panaderia, and asked the manager
if I could use his personal laptop,
and he said, "por supuesto."
I do not think we are in any hurry to cross back to the states, but
probably will by 5 p.m.
David Locklear
P.S. I will try to post a video on YouTube once I get home.

Dave,
You are missing Creature and Geoff Hoese's talk about caving in the Galapagos
Islands--it's great.

I don't think it's TSA convention related if you're not at the convention. At
the TSA convention, about 40 cavers are listening to Ron Ralph talk about the
TSS, drinking Shiner beer, and getting ready to get rowdy during Bill Steele's
dramatic poetry recital.
