David McKenzie has discovered that Adobe is giving away their entire
CS2 Creative Suite for free.

Might be a good opportunity to try Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign,
etc. without spending any money. Note the warnings at the top of the
web page, though. For example, that version won't run on Macs with
Intel processors unless they're also running an old enough version of
OS-X to have the run-time interpreter for G4 code. No idea what
problems might crop up with Windows versions less than seven years old
(i.e., more recent than the middle Paleozoic). The current Adobe
version of all that stuff is CS6.
The rent-it-by-the-month deal for CS6 and beyond is not that bad,
compared to what it would have cost to buy it. You download the
programs and run them locally, as always, and store your files on your
own disk. (They also provide a cloud and various collaboration tools
for those into that sort of thing.) The programs just have to use the
Internet once a month to verify that you're still paying. The serious
problem is that if you stop paying, the programs stop working
(assuming you haven't used some illegal hack that will no doubt
appear), and any files you have stored in their proprietary formats
will be unusable. You could still take them to somebody else who still
has a subscription. Any files saved locally in common formats such as
PDF, JPEG, HTML, or TIFF will of course still be good.--Mixon
