--- Begin Message --- If people bring back from the Czech Republic a paper copy of the proceedings of the International Congress of Speleology that they don't want, I'll buy up to two copies, one for me and one to sell to the UT geology library. (Of course if somebody wants to donate either copy, that would be nice too.) I think paper copies were about US$20 equivalent on the preregistration form, which would be a great deal. They may be more if bought separately on site.--Bill Mixon

Last week I sent the message below. I just got a follow-up that The Weather
Channel has rescheduled their programming.

I just checked
http://tvlistings.zap2it.com/tv/secrets-of-the-earth/upcoming-episodes/EP01724188?aid=zap2it,
which gives the schedule through the 22nd and Caverns of Sonora episode has
been postponed until sometime after that. Sorry, but I don't know when. If I
get a new "firm" date and can let you know in time, I will.

George

Dear Friends,

The Weather Channel has a series called Secrets of the Earth. A few months ago,
on behalf of NCKRI, I assisted with a segment they titled Strangest Places and
which will at least partly feature Caverns of Sonora. Yesterday the producers
told me that it is scheduled to air on Thursday, 11 July at 8:30 p.m. EDT. It
will also air several other times, but any of the times may be changed at the
last moment if there are major weather events. Details and times are supposed
to be posted at http://www.weather.com/tv/programs/, although their on-line
schedule didn't work for me so I'll just check the on-screen schedule on my TV
that day.

The people making the video seemed like a good crew and asked a lot of great
questions, so I'm hoping this will be quality presentation on this world class
cave.

George

George, will it be on the same show? I've setup a season pass so I don't
miss it.

Thanks!

From Huffington Post an hour ago:
MEXICO CITY -- An airport serving Mexico's fourth-largest city suspended operations for seven hours because of volcanic ash from the Popocatepetl volcano.

The international airport in Puebla was temporarily closed as a precautionary measure, said Puebla airport spokesman Herbert Lopez Palma.

Palma said the airport re-opened after the ash stopped falling and the airstrips were cleaned up.

The temporary closure affected six domestic and international flights to Houston and Dallas, Texas.

The airport is east of Mexico City and about 20 miles (30 kilometers) from the 17,886-foot (5,450-meter) volcano.

At the Mexico City airport, Alaska Airlines on Friday canceled its daily flight to and from Los Angeles.

Authorities said this week that a lava dome is growing inside the crater and could cause further eruptions.
