It's hard to really know the extent to which folks should be concerned about
traveling in Mexico at the moment. Sources from both sides of the border tend
to either deny or embellish the situation based on their prejudices. To say
everything is fine and dandy south of the border is asinine. But to say that it
is a deadly situation for all travelers is equally misleading. Best to be
cautious and well informed if you do travel in areas of known incidents, travel
in a caravan if possible, have a fluent Spanish-speaking person along, and
avoid traveling at night. But to be honest, those have been words of wisdom for
traveling in Mexico for the last 40 years.
