This month's issue of The Scientist has a short article about Bucknell University mammologist DedAnn Reeder's work on the bats of the South Sudan. In addition to identifying new species of bats, she is doing some interesting experiments regarding their immune systems, which may help in understanding why bats are known to harbor many infectious diseases (Ebola virus, rabies, WNS).
