The October 2011 Meeting of the Permian Basin Speleological Society was started promptly at 7:04 PM by the presiding Treasurer Bill Bentley as no other officers were able to attend. Patrick Ray showed up and took over the meeting at 7:15 PM Old Business: We got a report by Alex and Matt Ormsby about their October 1st trip into Comanche Springs Cave with Gary Franklin and some Austin Cavers. They reported that the cave was still and even more muddy. They helped using a skid to slide in scuba gear and it made the work go quickly. It was reported that the "Stephens Well" was only 16 feet deep and that a passage at the sandy bottom went off into a tunnel only 1 to 2 foot high and was impassable with gear. Much surveying was done, including "Big Brothers Loop" where there was water running down the passage. They explored past the "Born Again Hole" to back where they went on a previous trip and then over to the "Wishing Well" where the cave map didn't match what was there as it was undercut and much deeper than was described form the early 80's trips. It has a crack at the bottom that may go...They were in the cave from 9:00 AM until 4:00 PM and the showers were not available. They had a good time and used a high pressure hose to clean off. They also reported a trip to "Lone Madrone Cave" in the Guadalupe Mountains as a part of the High Guads Restoration Project. Under New Business was the upcoming 10-29-11 trip to "ESS Cave" and the mid November "5 Mouth Cave" dig trip. It was also discussed to maybe try to get permission to get into the other caves on the "5 Mouth Cave" properties or relatives property. "400 Foot Cave" was discussed as a future trip if permission can be secured.
