David, Were I renting a vehicle I would use Enterprise Leasing. However, what happened to your fairly new and most economical Honda Fit? For the money you will spend (waste) on a rental vehicle you could buy four new tires and a tune-up and maybe have money left over for other needed repairs. Do you still own it and what is its status? Advice from a conservative geezer who isn't making the trip.

If you were going to rent a car to go on a 4,300 mile road-trip over a 2 week period, which rental company would you go with? I presume spending ~ $ 350 to rent a car is a better idea, than driving up there in my old car. [ My old car could obviously break down and have to be towed to a shop and spend a few days in the shop while I have to get an expensive hotel. Plus my paying riders would be ticked off. ( I thought that up ! )] Are there any secrets to getting a good deal this late? Obviously, I have to get one with unlimited mileage. ( I thought that up, also ! ) The general consensus is that I should not drive my car to Vermont. My plan to ride up there in a Geo Metro is still on the table, but renting a car for a one way trip home is far more higher than I could have imagined ( I thought to check into that before leaving town !! ) Hope to see a few of you there. Still stuck in Houston.
