My info that CD-R and DVD-R will "outlast the technology" comes from

published by the National Institute of Standards and Technology and the Council on Library and Information Resources as a care and handling guide for librarians. It is fairly old (2003) now, though. It does point out that CD-Rs can't be exposed to too much light.
