Did anyone else notice that they claim the lava tube associated with that skylight should be at least 370 meters wide?! That would be an unprecedentedly large lave tube. I wonder how they think they can calculate a width for the tube based on only the width and depth of the skylight, which are far smaller. I don't believe it for a minute.

They were using the Missouri survey method.

The cave is 370 meters wide and 10 meters long.

I take it the nature of the "Rilles" is still a riddle? I wonder if perhaps
they are collapsed lava tubes.

        If you read the first article, it said:

>>Sinuous rilles are thought to form in two ways: (1) an open lava channel that thermally erodes into the lunar surface, or (2) subsurface lava tubes that eventually collapse. There were images of collapsed lava tubes that were discussed in the mid to late 1970's as evidence for volcanic activity and sinuous rille formation on the Moon.

Folks,

FYI,

www.mountaingear.com<http://www.mountaingear.com> is having a sale on climbing
gear, along with other items. They have Petzl left handed Expedition Ascenders
on sale for $49. That's a few dollars off the normal price of $60+ Could be a
good opportunity to save a few dollars.

This is a forwarded message from Bill Stringfellow
>>>>-----------------------fwd-------------------->

The sun is headed southward toward the Tropic of Capricorn as winter
approaches. As part of the government's meddling in the natural order of
things it is time to set your clocks backward 1 hour before you go to bed on
Saturday night as Daylight Saving Time ends.

It is also a good time to change the batteries in all Smoke Alarms and CO
detectors. You should also test all devices regardless of how they are
powered. Another thing to consider is the age of your devices. If they are
more than 10 years old then they should replaced with newer models. And
finally make sure you have the proper number of devices in your house.
 Current recommendations include at least one smoke detector on each level
of your house/apartment as well as one outside of each bedroom. In the
event of an emergency the more devices there are the better.

Do you have fire extinguishers in your residence? When was the last time
you checked their charge level? Most have an indicator showing the current
charge so if the charge is too low you should replace the extinguisher.
 Also, check to make sure you have the proper type for the area to be
protected.

>>>>----------------also------------------>
If you have kids living in the house it's also a good idea to have a fire
(or other emergency) escape plan, to include a meeting place somewhere
outside the house---not too close and not too far--that they can find in the
dark.

"Shoot In RAW" is I think the most valuable advice out of the 14.

It is also most widely ignored one.

The digital processing can be done by the FREE software initiated and lead by
(Texas Caver) Udi Fuchs :)

Here is the link to the software:

Subject: Cave Fest .....Rescheduled due to wet conditions!

Hi folks,

We’re making the call. It’s pouring rain here at the office. This is a
really tough decision to make because of the level of effort we’ve all put
into making Cave Fest a success. After spending time at the preserve and
under current conditions, we don’t have the resources to remediate after a
wet Cave Fest (think ACL)!!!!

*Cave Fest is officially cancelled for this weekend due to wet conditions.
We’re going to reschedule for Groundwater Awareness Week’s Saturday. *

*  *

*Please mark your calendars for a great spring Cave Festival—Saturday, March
13, 2010.***

*  *

Please let all your volunteers know. We’ve attached a cancellation flyer,
too.  Please post and share!

Our website is updated. Cancellation flyers are posted at the preserve.
And we’re meeting with KXAN to talk about Cave Fest and the recent rains, so
notice will likely go out on tonight’s news also.

If you get calls, feel free to route them to Jules at 289-1336. She’ll have
her cell on all Saturday.

THANK YOU ALL!

I think the makers of the video clip below have an audience of people
who enjoy watching the "Dumb & Dumber" type movies.

( recommend that you not watch it, but read below )

http://www.theonion.com/content/video/breaking_news_bat_loose_in

Synopsis:

A parody of 3 councilmen arguing about something irrelevant, when
a bat flies into the session. I can't understand where they found
actors/directors/animators with enough spare time to film this clip ?

Why did LG pay for advertising on this clip? Does that make you
want to buy LG ?
