This is from an internal memo circulated by Texas Parks and Wildlife
Department here in Austin concerning a new employee. Dr. Gluesenkamp is one
of the newest directors of the Texas Speleological Survey, which meets
tonight, by the way, for a work session.

Ron

Walkers, watch where you step. They're young and they're thirsty. Two
were spotted crossing the road from Bldg D area into the woods.

A baby was removed from outside an HQ building by our very own in-house
Herpetologist, Andy Gluesenkamp. Please..Don't hesitate to contact Andy at
x8722 (that is 389-8722 in real world) if you need snake removal.

Although we are fortunate to have wildlife right here at HQ, snake bites are
to be avoided. Anyone caught biting snakes will be disciplined accordingly!

Subject: Sept 11,2009 - let's do this!!

We have a little less than one month and counting to get the word out
all across this great land and into every community in the United
States of America.

If you forward this email to least 11 people and each of those people do the
same ... you get the idea.

THE PROGRAM:

On Friday, September 11th, 2009, an American flag should be displayed
outside every home, apartment, office, and store in the United States.
Every individual should make it their duty to display an American flag on
this eighth anniversary of one of our country's worst tragedies. We do
this to honor those who lost their lives on 9/11, their families,
friends and loved ones who continue to endure the pain, and those who
today are fighting at home and abroad to preserve our cherished freedoms.

In the days, weeks and months following 9/11, our country was bathed
in American flags as citizens mourned the incredible losses and stood
shoulder-to-shoulder against terrorism. Sadly, those flags have all
but disappeared. Our patriotism pulled us through some tough times and
it shouldn't take another attack to galvanize us in solidarity. Our
American flag is the fabric of our country and together we can prevail
over terrorism of all kinds.

Action Plan:

So, here's what we need you to do .

  (1) Forward this email to everyone you know (at least 11 people).
Please don't be the one to break this chain. Take a moment to think
back to how you felt on 9/11 and let those sentiments guide you.

  (2) Fly an American flag of any size on 9/11. Honestly, Americans
should fly the flag year-round, but if you don't, then at least make
it a priority on this day.

Thank you for your participation. God Bless Yo u and God Bless America!

Wow! I am impressed with the number of people who noticed my error in the
last posting. Today is Tuesday, not Wednesday, and the work session for the
TSS is not tonight but tomorrow night on second Wednesdays as always. See
you there with your survey notes ready to draft.

Ron

Hello Texas Cavers!

I'm looking for a cave for a filming location for the Smithsonian's new
Hall of Human Origins. The exhibit highlights archaeological findings
from Shanidar Cave in present-day Kurdistan. We're looking for a "stand-in"
cave, where we can film our host//scientist in a location that looks as
similar as possible to the actual cave. Here¹s a photograph of
Shanidar Cave, and I'm wondering if anyone knows of any Texas caves
which have a similar appearance from the outside. (I can send larger photo
if you¹re interested)

Thanks very much for your advice.

Jill,

Your photo strains the eyes but I think we might have one or two similar
shelters in west Texas. Please send a jpeg or tif file with many dpi to the
Texas Speleological Survey and we will compare your shot (s) with our files
for best fit.

Texas Speleological Survey
