Fellow cavers, Thank you for giving me this opportunity to help the NSS.
I'm a Texas caver based in Houston. I have been caving for about 2 years. I presently serve as the Conservation Chair for the Texas Speleological Association (TSA). I am also serving as the treasurer for the Greater Houston Grotto (GHG). For those of you who will be at the ICS 2009 in Kerrville, Texas in July. I'll be seeing you there. Come check out the really cool cave trips I'll be leading (Longhorn and Kickapoo). I have a B.Sc. major in Earth Science with a minor in Information Technology Management. I have worked in both the earth science and IT fields. I have worked as a XRF laboratory technician and as an environmental hydrogeologist. I have also worked as a system admin, as an IT consultant and as a software developer. I am currently working in a hybrid position as a geochemistry data analyst. This challenging position combines both my earth science and IT backgrounds. My experiences directly related to the IT Chairman position are: a) My 2.5 years as an IT consultant, designing and building inter-office and intra-office IT networks based on Linux and other open source software for clients (2002 to 2005). b) My 1.5 years working as a system administrator for an educational software firm in Arizona (2005 to 2006). I am a certified UNIX system and network administrator, from SUN Microsystems. I am a certified Linux system administrator, from the Linux Professional Institute (LPI). I am also an Oracle certified database admin. I cannot say I know every single technology detailed in the IT Chairman's job description. But one thing I've learned in my 13 years of work experience, is that you can never know everything. But you can figure out anything that comes along. I'd like to borrow a line from another candidate's introduction, Charles Goldsmith: "I'll gladly help with the committee under whoever the chair is." I applied for this position to give back to a community that has given me a lot. I am here to help in any way I can. -- Lyndon Tiu _______________________________________________ It-chair-search mailing list [email protected] http://lists.caves.org/mailman/listinfo/it-chair-search
