Yes, in fact Bill Steele, Emily Zuber and I did just that in a cave in Guerrero in April. I talked about it at the TSA Convention. I'm sure that Bill would agree that his carbide lamp wouldn't have worked well at all in such a passage. In fact, his favorite multi-LED light was also barely up to the task, but he was glad he had it rather than his old carbide lamps.
