ADDRESS: 101 N Sweeten Street Rocksprings, TX 78880 DIVISION: State Parks HIRING CONTACT: Mike Hill POSTING DATE: August 13, 2008 POSTING NO.: 08-32-356 CLOSING DATE: September 10, 2008 GENERAL POSITION DESCRIPTION: Responsible to the Region 1 Parks Director for planning, organizing and directing the overall operations, management, leadership, preservation, interpretation, maintenance and security of Devil's Sinkhole State Natural Area. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: participation in cultural and natural resource stewardship; financial management; budget planning, preparation and monitoring; revenue management; human resources management; security and safety programs; maintenance and repair of facilities, grounds and equipment; customer service; public relations, marketing and promotion; interpretation and education; organization of special events; community outreach; volunteer development and coordination of partnerships. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division, and Branch rules, regulations, and procedures. WORKING CONDITIONS: (1) Public park; (2) Forty hour work week includes non-standard schedules, with work hours other than 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and days off other than Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays; (3) Required to respond to emergency situations; (4) Required to travel with occasional overnight stays; (5) Required to work in an outdoor environment in all types of weather; (6) Required to work as part of a team, though often working independently with little or no supervision; (7) Non-smoking work environment in State buildings and vehicles. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education: Graduation from an accredited four year college or university with a bachelor’s degree. Acceptable Substitution: TPWD employees hired prior to January 1, 1998 may substitute up to two years TPWD experience in park management, supervision, and operations for the required education at a rate of one year work experience equals 30 semester hours with a maximum substitution of two years work experience for 60 college credit hours. Preferred Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in Park Administration, Recreation and Parks, Wildlife/Fisheries Science, Natural and/or Cultural Resource Management, Forestry, Biology, Anthropology, Archeology, or History. Experience: Three years experience in (1) natural/cultural resource management; or (2) interpretation or education; or (3) general maintenance; or (4) public safety; or (5) promotions or public relations, or marketing. NOTE: Experience may have occurred concurrently. Preferred Experience: (1) Experience as a supervisor or team leader; (2) Experience in revenue or budget management. License/Certifications: Must possess or be able to obtain, within thirty days of employment, a valid class “C” Texas driver’s license. NOTE: Retention of position is contingent on obtaining and maintaining required license. SELECTION CRITERIA: Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: (1) Knowledge of all phases of park administration and operations; (2) Knowledge of cultural and natural resource management; (3) Knowledge of interpretive techniques and preparation of public programs; (4) Skill in coordinating the work of other staff; (5) Skill in public relations; (6) Skill in using computer software programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook; (7) Skill in planning, organizing and implementing interpretative public presentations and guided tours for all age groups; (8) Skill in effective verbal and written communication; (9) Ability to effectively coordinate the work of other employees while maintaining and fostering a team environment; (10) Ability to develop beneficial relationships and promotional partnerships with volunteer groups and other outside agencies/organizations; (11) Ability to develop marketing and promotional activities and special events; (12) Ability to carry out public and employee safety programs; (13) Ability to coordinate maintenance, repair, or construction of park facilities as well as maintenance/repair of equipment; (14) Ability to develop and maintain financial systems, accountability of budgets, purchasing, revenue collections, inventories, and agency property; (15) Ability to enforce appropriate park rules and regulations in a fair and consistent manner.
