Position: Geographic Information System (GIS) resource
analyst
Description: Bat Conservational International is seeking
a highly motivated person to develop and implement GIS and associated
databases. You will work independently and as a member of a team to
develop, prioritize and implement a system for data storage compatible
with GIS and summarize information for reports.
Responsibilities will include developing and maintaining
data base structures, formats and dictionaries; ensuring compatibility
of spatial and tabular data resource data; working closely with staff to
convert existing data into usable forms for association with GIS mapped
data; producing GIS products (maps, summarized information etc.); and
performing analytical tasks using the system as requested by users.
This position requires a detail oriented leader who can
work collaboratively with staff to design a database model for BCI and
develop and utilize a new GIS system. You will be responding to requests
for data acquisition, data manipulation, and extraction of information
from the database from individuals throughout the organization. Your
position will also provide a support and service role through
maintenance of the GIS system and technical assistance to staff.
Preferred Experience: General knowledge of computer
operations, including operating systems, software, applications and
hardware. Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices, methods, and
techniques of Geographic Information Systems and associated databases.
Knowledge of the GIS software and computer systems sufficient to
properly enter geographic data into the system, correct improperly
entered data, instruct others in data acquisition and application of the
system to enhance BCI's overall mission and goals.
Knowledge of natural resources and their management
sufficient to converse with biologists and ecologists working on both
national and international conservation efforts and to be able to apply
the principles, practices, methods, and techniques of GIS to bat
conservation. Knowledge of mathematics, statistics, and computer
applications sufficient to analyze data and implications of conservation
priorities and analyze day to day operational problems. Able to perform
highly structured, repetitive tasks in an environment in which structure
is likely to change frequently with the development and establishment of
a new system.
Salary: $35,000 - $45,000 negotiable; 1 year position;
continued employment contingent upon renewed funding.
