lecture will be held on May 1, 2008 at the conference room at Southwest
Research Institute in San Antonio, Texas and will run from 9:00 AM until

The title of the lecture is Origin and Pattern of Solutional Porosity -
The Importance of Karst Processes in the Hydrology of Soluble Rocks.

The discussion will focus on: what is karst, types of rock, processes,
landforms, and their origins, constraints on conduit development,
competition and relative growth rates, patterns of solutional porosity
and caves; management of karst aquifers, water supply and quality,
interpretation of conditions in the Edwards Aquifer, and relation to
other geosciences fields including engineering, petroleum, and ore
geology.

Dr. Palmer is Professor Emeritus of Hydrology and Geochemistry at the
State University of New York (SUNY) at Oneonta and is the former
director of the Water Resources Program at the school. He is author of
about 100 publications on the subject of karst including the 2007 book
