I've certainly seen bigger coyotes, even in central Texas near Driftwood
(south of Austin) as well as in West Texas. Also in New Mexico, where people
in the country used to joke that cats were coyote bait. There's even been a
recent outbreak of coyotes snatching pets here in Virginia. It seems coyotes
don't mind close contact with people. However I think I read something a few
years ago that said a large part of coyotes' diets, at least in Texas, was made
up of crickets! When Nancy Weaver and I had chickens in Driftwood, foxes and
dogs were more of a problem for them than coyotes.
