I agree with the sentiments of many subscribers to this list serve that
there have been way too many threads of late that have nothing to do with
caving,
are irritating and offensive to many in the silent background, and are
actually detrimental to the theme and spirit of this list serve. It's nice
that
they are sometimes labeled with OT, but in reality they don't belong here
and I suspect that the authors wouldn't discuss these topics with the same
intensity and venom, or even at all, if they were face to face with their
co-subscribers. Why involve the rest of us in these excursions into cyber
rage ?
We may not be the immediate target of your wrath or digital repartee, but we
do get tired of constantly deleting endless emails from what could be a more
meaningful list serve.
I also note that the same individuals are typically the authors and
instigators of these electronic diatribes. It would be really beneficial for
all
if they spent a few minutes pondering the necessity of inflicting lightening
bolts on others before hitting the Send key. It's extraordinarily selfish
to believe that you have the right to respond anyway you like on a public list
serve, and that others have to grin and bear it, or hit Delete so that you
won't be burdened with their backlash. The argument that "you can just use
Delete" becomes more of an excuse for abuse than a legitimate claim for first
amendment rights when individuals continually disregard the rules of the list
serve.
If this forum does not clean up it's act, it will most likely decay into
inconsequence and/or need to be more heavily monitored. I think everyone
would tend to agree that topics of Religion, Politics, and other hot button
items have no place on CaveTex, and I have to question why anyone thinks they
should be.
