I just saw a little blurb about it - (watched on a completely digital television set that doubles as a computer but only receives analog TV signals. It uses a big CRT tube rather than flat panel - the irony...)
But it said that the switchover occurs at the end of '08. Starting in '09 "emergency services" will begin using that entire bandwidth that used to be allocated for VHF (and UHF???) FOR the use of the DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY. The imperative to take down the old analog system, it said, was initiated shortly after 9/11/01. Wow, I'm so proud that the Federal Government of my country will go to such great lengths to protect me from those scary terrorists! No matter how inconvenient, expensive or ecologically unconscious those actions might be... Sanyo, I believe - has a digital to analog signal conversion unit for only $60 I find it interesting that public television stations - (broadly, most critical of the current administration) - will be facing the greatest hurtles. A sufficiently jaded person just might reach the conclusion that this was an indirect if not calculated blow to free speech... -WaV On 10/17/07, Louise Power <[email protected]> wrote: > > Thanks, Charlie, for the additional info.
