I have been disappointed recently, as I could not find anything
exciting going on with new LED lighting products.

However, Coleman just released an awesome new LED lantern.

Several months ago, or longer, I reported on Coleman's Exponent
line of LED lanterns. These small lanterns were ahead of the
others in several aspects. I mentioned in that post, that Coleman
must not be testing the lanterns because they seem to work better
upside down, yet there was no way to maintain them in that position.

Well, they fixed that. The hanging hook is neatly tucked away on
the bottom of the lantern, so you can only hang it upside down. You
can also set it down on a flat surface upside down.
( I wonder if Coleman is spying on Cavetex threads ? )

But that is not the only improvement. It packs so tiny. A little
bigger than a lemon.

And it has more battery power, using three lithium CR123A batteries
instead of double-A's.

And it uses a brighter and more efficient LED bulb.

This lamp would be ideal for caving expeditions were you are camping
in a big room for several days. It would be ideal for back-packing
trips. It would be ideal for camping. It would be ideal for hurricane
preparedness or other emergencies. It would be ideal to keep in
your car's glovebox. It would be ideal to keep on your boat.

Bass Pro Shops has the lantern for $ 60.

The only improvement I can see, is to find a water-proof box that fits
its tiny triangular shape.

Until, LED's and batteries become more efficient, I don't see any
way you could improve on this lantern.

I will try to test it in about 2 weeks. Does anybody already have one?
