Don,
Joe and I were in Alaska last summer, and did not see anything for
the Denali area, but were able to get into some crevases at
Wrangell-St. Elias National Park. At this park you can hire a guide
to go glacier hiking and ice climbing. There are two outfitters who
do these trips. www.steliasguides.com/alaska_day_trips.htm
www.kennicottguides.com/ (We used them)
On our trip we were able to repel into some pits and climb out, and
we also walked into a carved out ice cave feature.
It is a little more challenging to get into Wrangell -St. Elias since
you have to rent a vehicle that is allowed to drive on gravel roads,
or find a shuttle, but the park is still largely undeveloped and was
one of our favorite stops on our trip. You can also fly into the
area, or even schedule a flight seeing trip as we did. There are a
lot of options for activities.
Have a great trip. We really enjoyed exploring Alaska and I hope you do too.

I'm kindof 'fraid of venturing into crevases or ice caves - but
anyone aware of any caves on the slopes of McKinley or Denali
National park???
I'm heading up there at the end of the month.
