I recently received word from Jim Coke of the Quintana Roo
Speleological Survey that Sistema Ox Bel Ha has been connected to Sistema
Yax Chen East. That puts Ox Bel Ha back in the lead as longest cave in
Mexico and longest underwater cave in the world at 164457 m. It has 128
entrances! Previous leader Sistema Sac Actun is now second at 157390 m
(including dry cave sections). It has 111 entrances. There are many
possibilities for the latter to grow, however, so it may well resume the
lead. Stay tuned!
