My hybrid Honda broke-down and left me stranded
for the first time. At 177,394 miles, the
water-pump apparently locked up. Without warning,
I heard a loud pop and something smelled like burning metal.
And then smoke and vapor shot out of the area where
the water pump is.

I was near my office, so after it cooled down, I tried
to drive it, but the transmission didn't seem to work.

I had to push the car about 8 city blocks to my office to
get it to a safe place. That would have been easy, because this car
isn't much heavier than a large motorcycle, but pushing and steering
at the same time is not much fun, and I was out of shape.

I hope I didn't destroy the belt-driven transmission or damage the motor.
It is going to be sitting up for probably several months,
if not longer.

It is now officially for sale. Any takers? I still owe almost
8 grand on it.

On the hybrid news front, the 2007 model of hybrid Civic
is supposed to have a more efficient electric
motor, as they claim they have squeezed more copper
coils into it.

I still haven't seen the hybrid Mercury Mariner. Has
anybody seen one?
