Folks, Another update on Deep and Punkin. We have gotten a really good response from folks, thanks for all the offers to help. Seems that I'm having a problem opening up my web mail browser to get the mail in my spam blocker. I understand that Norton Virus scanner is interfering with the process so I may get it worked out tonight or tomorrow. Anyway, I have received a notice that Susan Chelf, Edward Sevcik, and B.T. Price are trying to get through. I should have this problem worked out by tomorrow and will be able to respond.
I want to thank the many cavers who have supported the TCMA and the Deep and Punkin project with their many donations and hope that many of you can join us over the long weekend and get to see and enjoy what your hard work is helping to preserve. Remember, this is a project for all Texas cavers - everyone is welcome. Couple of notes of interest. If you will be visiting the property and driving in from the Rock Springs area, make sure that you do not speed. Since last October, I've been pulled over 3 times for speeding even though I have been very careful about doing the speed limit. However, I've never been given a ticket. They ask me why I'm on the road and I tell them that I manage a piece of property for the Texas Cave Management Association in Carta Valley and they let me go. I think Route 377 is used for the transport of numerous illegal things coming up from Mexico. Hopefully, the police will start to recognize the bat stickers and quit pulling me over. Anyway, a couple of pointers, Don't speed on 377. If you do get pulled over, make sure that you are respectfull. If it's after dark, don't get out of the car, turn on your inside lights, and everyone in the car should keep their hands where they can be seen. Feel free to tell them you are going to the Punkin Cave property in Carta Valley and that there will probably be a number of cavers driving that way tonight. Let them know that you can identify the cavers by the bat sticker on the car. There are some very lonely and dark stretches of road on 377 at night and the police have a tough enough job without us making it any harder. However, all of the police officers I've met so far have been very nice, even after I answered one of the cops with a yes sir rather than yes mama and couldn't find my insurance card. I'm surprised I didn't get cracked up side the head with a mag light just for being a wise ass. Of course she was pretty big and it was dark and she had a pretty good mustache going. Also, I have placed a Texas Bat Sticker on the gates or on the fence near the gates on the road to the property. This should help folks identify the correct ranch road route to the property. I also can email directions to anyone that needs them. Thanks, and hope to see you there. Geary Schindel Property Manager
