There will be a survey trip to Deep Cave in Edwards County over the weekend of September 16th -18th.
At present, the cave has a surveyed length of 6213feet (1894m) and a depth of 299 feet (91m). The September trip will focus on exploration and survey in the areas visited by the Project during the June trip. No vertical work is expected. The bats have returned to Punkin Cave so trips to that cave will be restricted to watching the evening bat flight. The trip will be limited to a maximum of 16 in-cave personnel. Of these 16 people, 8 will be selected from the core group on a first-come basis prior to each trip. The core group consists of individuals that are trip leaders familiar with the cave and/or experienced sketchers that are capable of conducting a survey to the standards set by the Project. That leaves 8 slots open per trip for those that are not necessarily familiar with the cave but are interested in participating in the Project. Participants will be selected on a first-come basis with final nominations subject to the decision of the Project Coordinator. A list will be generated of interested individuals that request a spot but exceed the trip quotas. These individuals will be given preference on future trips per the decision of the Project Coordinator. It is anticipated that there will be scheduled Project trips every 8 weeks or so throughout the year. Individuals interested in participating in the Project or that have questions should contact Jerry Atkinson via email or by phone.
