I believe Cooney is a family name in the area. RD Milhollin and I went down and found it a few years back because there had been contention about whether it was a cave or not. It's actually a shelter, a pretty weird one but a shelter still. I believe there are other local features (never on the database) that are also called caverns but are shelters.
I doubt the Cooney family would be willing to change their name to be politically correct.
