Here's something received from Spanish cavers about recent work in the Picos de Europa in Spain. It is interesting to see the present state of machine translation. One conspicuous error is the misinterpretation of "este" as the noun for east rather than adjective for "this." But I think you can figure most of it out even if you don't know Spanish. (I don't. Another year more of good results with good people. The east activity year has been divided in two promising cavities, the Green PC-26 or Stones and the Torca of the Valley of water or VA-1, not leaving of side the prospection, the revision of cavities with ice and cavities formerly explored. This year due to the snow-covered forts the caves with habitual ice were but that plugged. The continuation of the explorations in the PC-26 has taken to a depth of -950 m. and a development to us of 1935 ms. The exploration has finalized in a meander with very important airflow and also an important amount of water. The cavity has surpassed in plant the first siphon of Torca Castil (PC-15), although at the moment this going towards the W probably, to join itself with lost of water of the room of 500, supposedly to go towards the N. Au'n are 150 limestone m.s again until the first level of base known by us (siphon of Torca Castil), but that is another chapter of the series. Our old friend the VA-1 continues growing, being at the moment her depth of -370 m. with 1177 m.s of development. Its end has been a P-50, not descended in its totality. Its proximity with torca of the Carnizoso, CZ-3 makes us venture a possible connection as already we thought the past year, but we have observed east year airflows that have disturbed to us. A new cavity, hidden well, the M-15, with -85 m. can be a new entrance to Torca Tortorios (CT-1), adding development to this cavity and perhaps some meter of unevenness. Until now, the great cavities of the zone explored by us are: System Castil - Carbonal, -1019 & -785 m., Torca of the Carnizoso, -736 m. Torca Tortorios, -956 m., Green Stones, -950 m.... Torca of the Valley of the Water, -370 m.... We took at the moment topografiados more than 13 km of underground conduits without entering the small cavities. La actividad este año se ha dividido en dos prometedoras cavidades, la PC-26 o Piedras Verdes y la Torca del Valle del agua o VA-1, no dejando de lado la prospección, la revisión de cavidades con hielo y cavidades antiguamente exploradas. Este año debido a las fuertes nevadas las cuevas con hielo habitual estaban mas que taponadas. La continuación de las exploraciones en la PC-26 nos ha llevado a una profundidad de -950 m. y un desarrollo de 1935 m. La exploración ha finalizado en un meandro con corriente de aire muy importante y una también importante cantidad de agua. La cavidad ha superado en planta el primer sifón de Torca Castil (PC-15), aunque actualmente se esta dirigiendo hacia el W probablemente, a juntarse con perdidas de agua de la sala de 500, para supuestamente dirigirse de nuevo hacia el N. Aún hay 150 m. de caliza hasta el primer nivel de base conocido por nosotros (sifón de Torca Castil), pero eso es otro capítulo de la serie. Nuestra vieja amiga la VA-1 sigue creciendo, siendo actualmente su profundidad de -370 m. con 1177 m. de desarrollo. Su final ha sido un ¿P-50?, no descendido en su totalidad. Su proximidad con la torca del Carnizoso, CZ-3 nos hace aventurar una posible conexión como ya pensábamos el pasado año, pero hemos observado este año corrientes de aire que nos han desconcertado. Una nueva cavidad, bien escondida, la M-15, con -85 m. puede ser una nueva entrada a Torca Tortorios (CT-1), sumando desarrollo a esta cavidad y quizás algún metro de desnivel. Hasta ahora, las grandes cavidades de la zona exploradas por nosotros son: Sistema Castil Carbonal, -1019 & -785 m., Torca del Carnizoso, -736 m. Torca Tortorios, -956 m., Piedras Verdes, -950 m.. Torca del Valle del Agua, -370 m.. Llevamos actualmente topografiados más de 13 km de conductos subterráneos sin contabilizar las pequeñas cavidades. En la campaña han participado un total de 28 espeleologos/as en periodos fraccionados desde el día 30/07/05 hasta el día 20/08/04. Pertenecientes a los siguientes Clubes: G.E.L.
