I've heard from a correspondent in Moscow about the new depth of Krubera
Cave in (Republic of) Georgia. The increase in depth from 2080 m to 2140 m
was accomplished by a team, mostly from Moscow, who dived the sump at the
bottom in September.
The depth of the cave has been determined by the "hydrometry method,"
whatever that is. Apparently there is a difference of something like 8m
between two surveys they are trying to resolve. Not sure
what "best" figure is, but +/- 8m is plenty good for a cave survey to that
depth (half a percent error). -- Mixon
