Last Saturday, a French Caver died while rigging a 300mts deep pit.
Gerard A. (with two cavers) was rigging a 300mts deep pit with 200mts and
8mm diameter rope. He began to rapell and in some moment lost the control and
fell 150mts. His friends look for help. Later the rescueteam found Gerard
died.
Until now, nobody knows why Gerard lost the control. More news later.
Gerard was exploring in Chiapas Mex. in 2003 y 2005 in Chorro Grande (Meseta
de Belén), San Fernando y Cañón de Santo Domingo.
Cavers,
This is very unfortunate news for all. Please take a moment to read
these two articles in the BATS Grotto Newsletter on a rappel safty with the
coined name "French Wrap Self Belay". The articles are on pages 8 thru 11.
See ya on rope!
