TYLER, Texas- A sink hole estimated to be at least 50 feet across and up
to 100 feet deep has closed a stretch of road near Tyler.
The Texas Department of Transportation is waiting for the sink hole to
stabilize.
TxDOT spokesman Larry Krantz says the sink hole developed Sunday on
Farm-to-Market Road 724 -- and may be growing.
Krantz says this is the first "catastrophic failure" of the roadway.
Geologists will help determine what caused the sink hole in a rural area
near Tyler Pounds Regional Airport.
