The NSS Convention started Monday morning, but we were still asleep in our hotel in Meridian Missisippi. The 3 other members of my party would not or could not drive, and I needed to rest.
We drove in the rain most of the afternoon, and arrived at the campground as the sun was going down, having missed all the NSS activites prior to that. We kept having to stop and pull off the road as one of the members of my group, kept pooping in her diapers. After registering, I dropped off Magdalena, and la suegra, and the baby, herein referred to as Cavepearl at the Howdy Party. I went to look for a campsite and get the camp set up so Cavepearl could go to bed. The campground covered a large area along the runway of an old airplane landing strip. I found a quiet spot in the very back between the ice skating rink and the baseball stadium. The lights of the baseball stadium shined brightly down onto our tent site. The ground was hard as a rock, I had great difficulty getting my aluminum stakes in the ground, and I had only brought a plastic mallet ( to reduce weight in the car.) Surprisingly, all my Kelty tent stakes, called No-Bendiums became bent to hell and unusable. I quickly grabbed a plate of food at the Howdy Party, danced one song with Cavepearl, said hello to a handful of people, and then returned to camp which was nearly a 1/4 mile away and then continued to set up camp. Forturnately, the weather was pleasant that evening because I could not get anything staked down good. The barbeque was good. I didn't tell Magdalena and la suegra, that it cost us arm and a leg. They enjoyed it more by thinking it was a cheap meal. I was too tired from driving and setting up camp to really enjoy anything that night. However, it was the 1st night, I had every camped with the baby in the tent, so that part was very rewarding. I believe the bands played great and very late into the evening. I would have loved to have experienced the live music, but I was too wiped out and went to bed. David Locklear
